CBD apartment fire contained to balcony

Firefighters were called to a fire at a multi-level apartment building on Spencer St at 12:47pm this afternoon.

Crews located the fire on the building's 43rd floor and commenced an aggressive internal attack.

The blaze was contained to an apartment balcony and brought under control at 1:13pm.

Approximately 100 residents were evacuated from the building. All have since returned aside from those residing on the 43rd floor.

The building's sprinkers and evacuation system were in good working order and operated as designed.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the area.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also assisted on scene.
