12 Jul 2017
MFB firefighters are currently on scene in Melbourne’s CBD following a café fire on Flinders Lane/Degraves Street.

A number of calls were made to triple-zero shortly after 2pm with the fire producing a large amount of smoke.

All patrons were safely evacuated and occupants of the adjoining buildings were also evacuated.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire and used a Thermal Imaging Camera to check if it had spread in the walls and ceilings.

The fire was declared under control after 13 minutes but crews will remain on scene.

It’s believed the fire started in the kitchen area and of the café and spread through the flue and ducting.

Smoke and water have damaged approximately 50 per cent of the café.

Flinders Lane will remain closed for some time.
