MFB Firefighters have helped evacuate several cardiac patients from a hospital ward overnight.
Crews were called to the hospital on Furlong Road in St Albans just after 7:15pm after a Fire Indicator Panel alarm alerted firefighters to an incident on the second floor.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the hospital to investigate.
A large amount of smoke was issuing from a computer at the hospital. Crews quickly moved a number of cardiac patients away from the smoke and out of danger.
MFB’s specialist Fire Investigation Unit will work to analyse the cause, which is believed to have been started by a battery.
