Chemical spill in industrial area outside Melbourne Airport

MFB Firefighters are on scene of a chemical spill in the industrial area abutting Melbourne Airport.

Firefighters were called to Steele Way just before 6pm.

The location is approximately one kilometre from the Airport boundary and not affecting flights in or out.

Approximately 10 litres of the chemical has spilled and one worker has been affected and is currently being assessed by Ambulance Victoria.

Work has commenced to transfer the product into a recovery drum and remove it from site.

MFB has specialist hazmat and breathing apparatus crews are on scene along with the MFB Scientific Officer.

Crews expect to be involved for another hour or so recovering the product.

Firefighters declared the scene under control in two hours.
