Fire crews have gained the upper hand at the Coolaroo recycling plant, with the fire now under control.

Premier Daniel Andrews visited the site this morning to speak with and thank all agencies involved in the firefighting effort.

He made the announcement that the fire was under control shortly before 9am this morning.

MFB and CFA crews are being assisted today by approximately 30 firefighters and appliances from NSW, ACT and SA.

Firefighters are continuing to focus on reducing the impact to nearby businesses and residents.

Crews will remain on scene for some time to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

DHHS and Ambulance Victoria have opened a temporary Community Health Centre at the relief centre and the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre for anyone with concerns.

A community meeting will be held at the relief centre at 2pm today.
