Crews on scene at Port Phillip Prison fire

Firefighters have responded to a fire at Port Phillip Prison in Truganina at 1:29am this morning.

Crews on route reported smoke and flames showing and requested further appliances to attend. On arrival firefighters found the control room involved in fire.

No injuries have been reported, while 25 staff have been evacuated from the area and are accounted for.

No prisoners are in danger and remain in lock down.

The blaze is not yet under control.

The cause is yet to be established, MFB Fire Investigators will attend if required during daylight hours.

A community warning has been issued for smoke in the area.

Police Victoria and Ambulance Victoria are on scene assisting.
