Cyclist rescued from the bank of the Yarra River

MFB firefighters and High Angle Rescue specialists have successfully rescued a cyclist that fell down the bank of the Yarra River.

MFB crews were called to the scene at Studley Park Road near Johnston Bridge just before 1pm this afternoon.

The cyclist was located in a difficult to access area and his injuries required a sophisticated response.

The team established a rope rescue system, secured the patient into a stretcher and lifted him to the roadside into the care of Ambulance Victoria.

The extrication took one hour and the cyclist has been transported to hospital for medical treatment.
