11 Aug 2017
Thick smoke blanbketed Elwood this morning after a fire on Foam Street.

Crews were called to the house under construction at 7.56am.

On arrival firefighters found the fire well advanced in foam building products on the upper level of a two storey house.

Neighbours had attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose before evacuating.

There was a large amount of thick black smoke issuing so a Community Advice was issued.

Crews in breathing apparatus did an aggressive attack on the fire, bringing it under control in 25 minutes, confining the fire to the rear upper section.

Crews will remain on scene for a short while to totally extinguish and to check for further extension of the fire.

The incident is a timely reminder to all Melburnians to know and practice their fire escape plan regularly.
