Crews were called to a property in Hudsons Rd, Spotswood just after 3:30am this morning after a neighbour rang Triple Zero (000) to report an air conditioner atop of a two-storey weatherboard house had caught fire.

The Victoria Police Airwing also reported the fire from their helicopter.

MFB firefighters arrived to find the top floor of the house well alight, with fire extending through the roof.

Crews were advised that all occupants had evacuated the house and Ambulance Victoria was called to assist a resident suffering burns to his feet.

Firefighters used a numbe of hose lines to attack the blaze and managed to contain the fire to the upper level of the premises, bringing the fire under control in 20 minutes.

Fire investigators will attend at first light to investigate the caus eof the fire, which is thought to have been a result of the roof top air conditioner.
