Firefighters arrived within four minutes after being called to a house fire in St Albans overnight.

Multiple calls to triple-zero were received just after 3am this morning with callers stating the fire was in a bedroom and four people had evacuated.

On arrival crews found a two storey brick veneer unit of 40 square metres totally involved in fire and requested additional appliances to deal with the incident.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus attacked the fire both internally and externally whilst conducting a primary search to ensure all occupants had evacuated.

Crews also advised the occupants of two other units that share common property to shelter inside and close all windows.

All four residents were accounted four.

The fire was under control in 35 minutes.

At this stage the cause of the fire hasn't been established and fire investigators will attend later today.
