A family of four have had a lucky escape following a house fire in Glenroy this evening.

MFB firefighters were called to the scene just after 6.15pm and arrived to find the front of the property well alight and smoke issuing from the roof.

The front window shutters were burnt out.

Firefighters worked quickly and managed to get the fire under control in an hour and 15 minutes.

Two front bedrooms and the roof space have been severely damaged by fire while the remainder of the property has suffered smoke logging.

The occupants of the home will require alternative accommodation.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and MFB specialist Fire Investigators will attend the scene in the morning.
