07 Sep 2018
MFB’s specialist HAZMAT technicians are currently attending a chemical spill in West Melbourne.

Crews were called to the scene at Mackenzie Road just before 12 noon, following reports of a small amount of chemical leaking from a shipping container which was being stored on a ship.

MFB HAZMAT firefighters isolated the affected area and skillfully moved the shipping container to a safe location.

Crews determined that the chemical was a flammable solid.

Thankfully there were no reports of injury.

Six appliances and MFB’s Specialist Scientific Advisor have been deployed to the scene, and MFB is being supported by the Country Fire Authority and Victoria Police.

It is expected that crews will remain on scene for some time.
