Firefighters have made quick work of a fire which ripped through a Heidelberg Heights home this afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the Bonar Street address about 12.40pm after multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting black smoke and flames.

They arrived to find the rear of the single storey brick house ablaze.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus quickly entered the burning building to search for occupants but luckily, no one was home at the time.

The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes.

The cause of the incident will be investigated.
