13 Feb 2020
St Albans residents have escaped after their home on Bent Street caught alight this afternoon.

Firefighters were responded just before 5pm, and the first crew arrived on scene in less than seven minutes.

Extra resources were deployed after a number of additional Triple Zero (000) calls were received.

The fire quickly engulfed the single storey brick home but firefighters were able to bring it under control by 5:20pm.

A woman is in the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics, and a community warning has been issued due to a large amount of smoke in the area.

At the height of the fire there were approximately 25 firefighters on scene, deployed in five pumper appliances, a rescue unit, a breathing apparatus unit, and two other units.

Firefighters will remain on scene until they are confident the area is safe and the fire has been completely extinguished.

At this stage, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
