MFB firefighters are currently on scene in Glen Iris where a house fire has broken out this afternoon.

Crews were alerted to the incident on Lurnea Road about 3.30pm after neighbours raised the alarm via Triple Zero (000).

They arrived on scene in less than five minutes to find smoke issuing from under the weatherboard home.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the smoke- logged building to search for occupants.

Luckily, no one was home at the time.

Firefighters mounted an aggressive attack on the fire and managed to bring it under control in less than 40 minutes, containing the damage to two rooms.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Victoria Police and Ambulance are on scene assisting firefighters.
