Lucky escape for Broadmeadows resident

02 Dec 2018
The quick thinking of a Broadmeadows man alerted MFB firefighters to a house fire early this morning.

MFB crews received the call at 2:45am after the Triple Zero (000) caller reported smoke and flames coming from a home on Freda Street.

The caller ensured the resident of the home and the residents of the adjacent properties safely evacuated before crews arrived.

Firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes and were met with a single storey concrete house well alight. More than 20 firefighters in breathing apparatus conducted an aggressive internal attack on the blaze and brought it under control in less than an hour.

The resident of the home was transported by paramedics as a precaution.

MFB’s specialist Fire Investigation unit will work to determine a cause.
