Four people living in North Croydon have had a lucky escape after MFB Firefighters were called to attend a unit fire in Sturt Street just before midnight last night.

Crews arrived on scene in under four minutes and on arrival found the 10m x 10m, single-storey brick unit well involved in fire, and a neighbouring property under threat.

20 MFB firefighters worked quickly and efficiently to contain the fire and protect the neighbouring unit.

The blaze was brought under control in less than half an hour.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and Victoria Police will investigate.
