A man has been injured after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a Preston restaurant this afternoon.

MFB firefighters were called to the premises on High Street just before 1.30pm after smoke and flames were spotted coming from the rear of the building.

Crews quickly searched the restaurant to make sure everyone had evacuated, which was luckily the case.

They found the fire in the kitchen area of the premises. A search revealed that the flames had travelled up a flue and were spreading towards the roof.

However, the quick actions of firefighters managed to stop the blaze from spreading any further.

Crews managed to get the fire under control in less than 30 minutes. They remain on scene checking for hotspots.

A man was unfortunately injured in the incident and was treated by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
