Firefighters responded to a fire at the SKM Recycling Plant in Coolaroo tonight.

MFB and CFA were called to the Maffra Street factory just after 7pm.

Extra resources were requested by the first arriving MFB crews after they reported pallets of plastic on fire adjacent to the building.

The pallets of recycled plastic measured approximately 50m x 50m and were up against a factory measuring 50m x 80m.

MFB and CFA Firefighters have restricted the impact of the fire inside the building.

The fire was declared under control after 33 minutes; crews will be involved for a protracted period of time due to the nature of the fire.

The officer in charge of the scene has requested specialist equipment to combat the fire including additional hoses, an ultra large pumper and a supply of fire fighting foam.

A community warning has been issued for area advising people of possible road closures and to avoid the area of Maffra Street.

Police are assisting with traffic control and Ambulance Victoria are monitoring firefighters as they emerge from the fire scene and change over their Breathing Apparatus.
