A passerby has called triple-zero after spotting a house fire in Glenroy this afternoon.

MFB firefighters were alerted to the incident just before 3:30pm and on arrival found the fire had taken hold of the front room of the property.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus conducted a search of the house to make sure no one was inside.

The fire was brought under control in 36 minutes.

The quick work of attending crews meant the fire was contained to the one room.

It was later revealed that the occupants had been down the street.

Fire investigators will attend the property to determine the cause of the fire but at this stage it’s believed to be of an electrical nature.
