MFB firefighters have brought under control a grassfire near Bunnett Street in Sunshine North after receiving multiple calls this afternoon.

Crews arrived within six minutes and found a large grassfire spreading quickly.

Extra resources were requested to deal with it.

A community warning was issued due to the amount of smoke in the area and trains were also slowed in the area of the fire because of the smoke.

Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading towards neighbouring industrial estates.

The fire has burnt approximately 50 hectares of grassland and was declared under control after 75 minutes.

Crews will be on scene for some time to fully extinguish the fire.

At this stage the fire has been deemed suspicious.

Police and Ambulance Victoria are on scene assisting.
