13 Jul 2017
A relief centre has been set up for residents affected by the recycling plant fire at Coolaroo.

The fire has been confined but is not yet under control.

Neighbouring businesses on the south side of the fire have been closed for the day as a precaution.

A community meeting will be held at the Broadmeadows Leisure and Aquatic Centre at 3pm to keep residents informed.

Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for some time.

The community is urged to avoid the area.

Anyone impacted by smoke should seek medical advice.

Crews were called to the Maffra Street factory about 8.44am.

It’s believed the fire broke out in a pile of recycled materials outside the factory and workers were swiftly evacuated.

Community relief centre: Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre, 41 Tanderrum Way
