More than 25 firefighters battled a fire that broke out in Keilor Downs Sunday evening.

MFB Firefighters were alerted to the blaze in Sobar Court at 8:16pm and found the single storey property fully involved in fire.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the property after reports that an occupant may be inside.

A thorough internal search found no one inside. Crews used aggressive firefighting tactics to ensure that the neighbouring property was protected from damage.

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours maintaining fire duties including extinguishing hot spots.

The property suffered extensive damage from the fire and the structural integrity of the home will be investigated by a building surveyor

The scene has been handed over to Victoria Police for investigation.
