MFB firefighters have made quick work of a fire which engulfed an abandoned home in Albion this morning.

Crews were called to the derelict house on Wyalong St about 7.30am and arrived to find the weatherboard building ablaze.

Firefighters quickly attacked the blaze, bringing it under control within 15 minutes.

There were initial reports of squatters living inside, but luckily, a search revealed the house was empty.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and Victoria Police will investigate.
