12 Apr 2019
MFB firefighters have quickly stopped the spread of a suspicious fire which took hold of a home in Mont Albert this afternoon.

Almost 30 firefighters were called to the Orchard Crescent address just before 1pm and found a fire ablaze at the rear of the house.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection against the smoke the crews began attacking the fire.

Their efforts stopped the blaze from spreading to the remainder of the house.

Swift work from crews ensured the fire was under control by 1:14pm, just 10 minutes after their arrival on scene.

Thankfully, no one was inside the home when the blaze started and there are no reports of injury.

Firefighters believe the fire began under suspicious circumstances, and Victoria Police are investigating.

As the building may contain asbestos firefighters have enacted safety procedures.

At the height of the incident there were seven fire fighting appliances on scene and two Command units. Crews were supported by paramedics and police.
