Warehouse fire in North Coburg

More than 40 MFB firefighters are currently battling blaze at a warehouse on Sydney Road in North Coburg.

Crews were called to the scene just after 5pm this evening and arrived five minutes after dispatch to find a large warehouse alight.

At the moment 18 firefighting appliances are on scene, including aerial appliances that are attacking the blaze from all directions.

There is a large amount smoke in the area which is impacting visibility. The community is advised to avoid the area if possible and keep the roads clear so that emergency services can respond. Sydney Road, north of Gaffney Street is currently closed. Updated advice can be found here:

There are no reported injuries.

At this stage the cause of the blaze is not known.

Victoria police and Ambulance Victoria are currently on scene.

As of 1/12/18 at 20:59 

The fire that engulfed a warehouse measuring approximately 30x30 meters was deemed under control at 8:26pm this evening.  

Approximately 40 firefighters are still at the scene and will remain throughout the night to completely extinguish the blaze.

The fire impacted part of an adjacent motel. Approximately 30 guests evacuated safely and will be relocated until it is safe to return. 

MFB Fire Investigators will attend when the scene is safe and secure to determine the cause.

 

Sydney Road north of Gaffney St and Carr St remain closed.
