MFB crews have rescued a worker, missing in Telstra cable tunnels in South Yarra this morning.

Firefighters responded for a smell or leak of gas on Punt Road just before 9am this morning and on arrival were informed the worker was missing.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the area and rescued the worker, administering oxygen until Ambulance Victoria paramedics attended.

Crews using gas detection equipment are continuing to monitor the area and located the source of the smell or leak.

The incident is under control and there is no danger to the general public.

Parts of Punt Road are blocked and this is causing traffic issues in the area.
