04 Nov 2012
A vacant factory in Mentone has been almost destroyed by fire.

Firefighters were called to the scene on the corner of Phillips St and Flinders St about 6pm on Sunday November 4 after witnesses reported large plumes of smoke and flames coming through the roof.
The first Officer on scene requested that several more appliances be responded to assist in fighting the fire, and in total 45 firefighters attended the blaze.
Two aerial appliances were set up to assist to extinguish from above ground while other crews attacked the fire with hose lines.
There was concern that squatters may occupy the premises and a search was mounted as soon as entry could be made inside the building.
An area of approximately 30m by 15m has been destroyed, with the roof collapsing and only the walls left standing.
MFB's Fire Investigation team will attend the scene with Victoria Police to determine the cause of the blaze.
