22 Feb 2018
MFB received multiple calls for a fire at unit on Plummer Road in Mentone shortly after 5pm this afternoon.

On arrival, firefighters launched an aggressive attack however they were hindered due to the intensity of the fire and the structural integrity of the building being compromised by the fire.

A community warning was sent out for smoke in the area.

Due to the extent of the fire and the structural issues the entire building has been severely damaged.

There were no people at home at the time of the fire and at this stage there have been no reported injuries.

The fire was deemed under control in under half an hour however the total extinguishment will take some time due to the construction and the dangerous structural integrity issues.

A building surveyor will attend at a later date to establish the structural integrity of the building.

At this stage the fire does not appear suspicious. The fire needs to be totally extinguished before specialist Fire Investigators can establish the cause.

Also assisting at the scene were Police, Ambulance Victoria and relevant gas and electrical companies.
