Mother and child rescued in Ascot Vale

Firefighters rescued a mother and child during a fire in Ascot Vale last night.

Crews were called to the three storey block of units in Ascot Street about 11.30pm to find the top level ablaze.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the burning building to check for occupants and evacuated a mother and child from the smoke logged premises.
They were both treated at the scene by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes. 
The incident is being treated as suspicious and Victoria Police will investigate.
