A motorist driving along the Ring Road has been praised for calling in a house fire in Glenroy.

Firefighters were called to the Damian Court blaze just fore 4am after a motorist on the Ring Road called Triple Zero saying he could see smoke and flames to the south.

MFB firefighters arrived to find the house fully involved.

Access to the property was difficult and the officer in charge requested additional resources to attack the fire.

The fire was deemed under control at 4.29am and was contained to the house with no damage to surrounding properties.

Residents in adjoining properties were evacuated due to the amount of smoke from the fire.

The weatherboard house (measuring 15 by 20 metres) has been severely damaged by the fire and at this stage the cause is not known.
