Off-duty MFB firefighter discovers Thornbury house blaze

An off duty firefighter alerted the MFB to a residence well alight in Keon Street, Thornbury, this morning.

Following several other calls and reports of missing occupants as second alarm response was despatched.

Crews were called to the scene at 11.30am.

Firefighters used an aggressive attack which quickly knocked down the fire to allow a search of the premises. No occupants were found.

A 53 year old man was subsequently located outside suffering from facial burns smoke inhalation and was transported to hospital by Ambulance Victoria.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and fire investigators will be attending. The single story building was severely damaged by fire and approximate damage is $200,000.

Breathing Apparatus was utilised at this fire.
Eight appliances and 24 firefighters attended the incident.
