An eagle-eyed off-duty MFB firefighter called Triple Zero (000) after spotting a house on fire in Preston this morning.
The firefighter was passing by when he saw smoke and flames issuing from the property on Albert St at about 8:24am.
Approximately 18 MFB firefighters swiftly responded to the incident.
On arrival, they discovered a blaze in a bedroom of the single storey brick home.
The property was heavily smoke logged and luckily, there were no occupants inside at the time.
Crews worked quickly to gain the upper hand, getting the fire under control in just four minutes after arrival.
Victoria Police is investigating the incident.
