Over 85 firefighters tackle factory fire in Altona North.

When MFB firefighters arrived at the Laverton North factory they found it fully engulfed in flames.

The fire had extensively spread into an adjacent factory housing large crane. Fire Officers have praised the efforts of firefighters in minimising the damage to the cranes and associated earthmoving equipment stored within the building.

18 MFB firefighting appliances attended including 2 CFA trucks. Approximately 85 firefighters took 1hr 20 mins to bring the fire under control.  One MFB firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion on site.

MFB firefighters will be remaining on scene until Tuesday morning to continue fire duties.

Structural engineers are currently on scene to evaluate the safety and structural integrity of the building.

MFB Specialist Fire Investigators are on scene to report and determine the cause of the fire which is currently unknown.
