Police to investigate suspicious house fire in St Kilda East

Multiple calls were received for smell of gas and fire to two addresses in the vicinity of Lynedoch Avenue, St Kilda East.

Upon arrival at 6.30pm on Wednesday 17 September, firefighters found a large house well alight.

Initial reports indicated there may be persons living in the premises but the owner advised the premises was vacated on Monday and no persons have been found inside the building.

Asbestos procedures were enacted due to the confirmed presence of asbestos.

The fire was deemed under control by Commander Bruce Pickthall just before 7pm and was deemed to be suspicious. Victoria Police will investigate.
