A house in Brighton East was severely damaged by fire over the weekend.

MFB crews were called to the Melosa Ave home at 2.53am on Saturday September 21.

When they arrived, there was an extensive fire in the roof space and a portion of the four-bedroom brick house.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus took approximately 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The damage is estimated at $200,000.

There was nobody home at the time.  There were no reports of any injuries.

Eight appliances and 21 firefighters attended the incident.

The cause of the fire has been determined as electrical due to a powerboard.
