Reception centre destroyed in early morning blaze

13 Jun 2014
The MFB were called to a fire at a reception centre in Green Street, Thomastown just after 1am this morning.

The single-storey brick veneer building was already well alight from front to back upon our arrival.  Despite the size of the premises and the ferocity of the blaze, the fire was brought under control in less than 20 minutes.

The reception centre suffered extensive damage to all areas including the roof.  A council engineer will be attending later this morning to make an assessment of the building’s structural integrity.

The repair bill has been estimated at more than 1 million dollars and the cause has yet to be determined.
