MFB crews are currently attending a gas leak on Broadway/Lindsay Street in Reservoir.

Firefighters were called to the incident at 11:20am as a 50mm gas line was struck by earth moving equipment, causing the leak.

A 100 metre exclusion area has been established and approximately 15 to 20 houses have been evacuated.

Firefighters are using water spray to disperse the gas vapour and specialist gas detection equipment to monitor the area around the scene.

A community warning has been issued and the general public is advised to avoid the area.

Crews are awaiting the arrival of the gas company maintenance crews to shut down and repair the damaged gas line.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are assisting MFB crews, who will remain on scene for a number of hours.
