Residents evacuated as fire flared in CBD high rise

Crews attended a fire at 10:59 pm on Thursday 1 October as flames took hold of a high rise apartment in Melbourne's CBD

Multplie 000 calls were recieved for a fire that erupted on the 17th floor of the 28th level high rise apartment block in Melbourne's CBD.

Crews were on scene in minutes and quickly accessed the apartment balcony to find a split-system airconditioning unit and surrounds on fire. 

The fire was contained to the balcony area.

No injuries were reported, however 80 residents were evacuated from their apartments.

MFB declared the area safe and residents were returned within the hour.

MFB Specialist Fire Investigators have attended to inspect the area.
