Rubbish pile on fire at Laverton North

MFB is currently on scene at Laverton North, where a fire has broken out at a recycling facility.

The fire involves a large rubbish pile 50m x 30tm in size.

Crews were called to the Dohertys Road premises about 4.45am. It is the second time MFB has been called to the facility in a week.

Firefighters are attacking the blaze from above using aerial appliances, along with ground crews.

Heavy machinery is also being used to pull the pile apart and extinguish it.

A worker at the site was exposed to smoke and is being treated on scene by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

An advice message has been issued due to the community due to smoke in the area.

Firefighters are expected to be on scene for some time.

Community members are advised to avoid the area and visit emergency.vic.gov.au for the latest information and advice.
