Sunshine Chemical Leak Under Control

back to list
11 Feb 2011
MFB firefighters are currently working to seal a chemical leak of sulphur dioxide at an industrial gas manufacturer in Bunnett Street, Sunshine.

The incident at Air Liquide has been declared under control, with the leak contained to the property, where all non-essential staff have been evacuated.

Fire crews are working with onsite engineers to seal the leak at the top of the container, while MFB scientific officers continue to conduct air monitoring on scene.

Neighboring properties in the industrial area are being kept updated on the situation, although they are not at risk.

Ten MFB appliances are currently on scene, as part of MFB’s standard precautionary response to HAZMAT incidents, including the Control Unit and Decontamination Unit.

MFB crews will remain on scene for some time.
