MFB firefighters are currently on scene in Box Hill South after a blaze broke out amongst several shops just after 5pm this evening.

Initial crews were on scene in less than five minutes and were met with smoke issuing from the roof space of a number of shops.

Firefighters conducted an external attack of the blaze from multiple directions and were able to contain the fire to one shop.

The incident was declared under control at 5:44pm.

Crews will remain on scene to extinguish any remaining hot spots

Thankfully all affected shops were evacuated and all persons were accounted for.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
