A vigilant worker arriving for work immediately rang 000 after noticing smoke coming from the third floor of his office building.

After MFB firefighters arrived on scene and evacuated thirty people from the eight storey building, a small electrical fire was located in a wall cavity on the third floor.

A Co2 extinguisher was used to put the fire out and to keep damage to a minimum. The rest of the building was checked to make sure the fire had not spread internally.

Damage was limited to about five thousand dollars and no injuries were reported. The potential for a very significant fire was averted by the quick thinking employee.
