Smoke Alarm Saves Sunshine Residents

back to list
23 Nov 2018
Six occupants have escaped a blaze which took hold of a home in Sunshine overnight thanks to a working smoke alarm.

MFB Firefighters were called to the Ballarat Road property just after 2am following multiple calls to triple zero (000).

Initial crews arrived on scene in five minutes to a single storey weatherboard house which was fully alight, with flames threatening an adjoining property.

The hard work of approximately 24 firefighters ensured the blaze was brought under control in 40 minutes. Their efforts ensured the neighbouring property was saved from the blaze.

At the peak of the blaze there were six appliances on scene and two other MFB units.

Firefighters issued a Community Advice warning due to a large amount of smoke in the surrounding area, with advice to avoid Ballarat Road which was closed for firefighting operations.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics attended the scene overnight.

At this stage, the cause of the blaze is not yet known. MFB’s specialist fire investigation unit will visit the scene to determine a cause.
