St Albans pathology centre damaged by overnight blaze

A roof fire in a St Albans medical centre has caused up to $80,000 damage overnight.

MFB received a call for smoke issuing from the roof and local alarm operating on a single story brick veneer premise on Victoria Crescent at 10pm.

Crews on arrival found the fire was in the roof space of the premises, firefighters forced entry and conducted an initial search to ensure no persons were inside, property was vacant.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus aggressively attacked the fire, which they contained mainly to the roof space area.

The fire was deemed under control in 18 minutes. Damage estimated to be $70,000 to $80,000.

The premises housed a pathology business.

It's believed the cause may have been an electrical fault.
