The quick thinking of a passer-by raised the alarm after a fire broke out at a home in Strathmore.

MFB firefighters were called to the double story property on Peck Ave just before 9am this morning. The first arriving crew was met with the property producing a significant amount of smoke and immediately requested additional resources.

More than 30 firefighters attacked the blaze by entering the house donned in breathing apparatus and mounted an external attack to prevent the fire from spreading.

The incident was declared under control in 45 minutes. Thankfully no one was home at the time.

Firefighters discovered that the fire originated in a room on the second level of the home. MFB specialist fire investigators will attend to determine the cause.
