Suspicious blaze damages St Albans pizza shop

A St Albans pizza shop was significantly damaged by fire over the weekend.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Main Road at about 5.30am on Sunday.

The fire occurred in a 15m x 30m two-storey building with a pizza shop on the ground floor and residential units on the first floor.  All the residents were safely accounted for.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus contained the fire to the pizza shop.

The fire was deemed under control in less than 30 minutes. The interior of the shop sustained significant damage.

The cost of the damage is estimated to be less than $100,000.

There were no reported injuries.  The cause has been deemed suspicious and police are investigating.

Eight appliances and 22 firefighters attended the incident.
