02 Aug 2012
Fire severely damaged a brick veneer unit in Heidelberg West overnight.

The blaze in Alamein Road was reported shortly after 9pm with the premises well alight when the first of several MFB units arrived less than six minutes later.

The fire appears to have started in a front room and at one stage threatened to spread to an adjoining unit.  The blaze affected the entire single-storey unit with every room either burnt out or otherwise damaged by heat, smoke and water.

The repair bill has been estimated at $70,000 and the cause listed as suspicious.  The fire took 22 firefighters 25 minutes to bring under control and no injuries were reported.
