Suspicious fire in South Yarra

Fire crews battled a suspicious blaze in South Yarra yesterday afternoon.

MFB received a numerous calls for a building on fire in Porter St, near Commercial Road, about 3.35pm.

Crews found a vacant single storey brick dwelling with the front of the building fully involved and flames spreading to the roof space. Damage was restricted to this area after a quick fire fighting attack prevented damage to the rest of the building

The front section of the property was severely damaged with some damage in the roof space as the result of fire spread.  Breathing apparatus was used by crews.

Firefighters took approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and police will investigate.
