Thick black smoke in Broadmeadows after depot fire

MFB firefighters have battled a mattress fire at a Broadmeadows recycling depot.

Crews were called to Maygar Boulevard at 10:20am after thick black smoke was spotted by residents in the area.
On arrival they found a pile of mattresses and recycling refuse measuring 30 by 15 metres.
Crews contained the blaze quickly, and the fire was completely extinguished about 11:15am.
The cause has been identified by firefighters and site owners will review work practices.
Five trucks and about 18 firefighters attended the blaze.
